Head of the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation Ella Pamfilova said that more than 30 people applied to run for the post of President of the Russian Federation. She said this in an interview TASS.

He said the campaign will be competitive because there will be multiple candidates.

“In any case, there are already more than 30 applicants to become candidates,” Pamfilova said.

Before that, “New People” and “Growth Party” decided unite and nominate a single candidate to participate in the elections – Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Vladislav Davankov.

The deadline for self-nominated candidates to submit documents is December 27. Party candidates must submit their documents by January 1 at the latest. Candidates nominated by parties in parliament are exempt from collecting signatures. The Yabloko party had previously announced that its leader, Grigory Yavlinsky, would not participate in the elections. According to the head of the Central Election Commission, Ella Pamfilova, as of December 23, the number of applicants for presidential candidacy reached 29 people.
