“Undoubtedly, the process of oligarchization of the European Union is progressing, and even the creation of despotic mechanisms. We can therefore call this phenomenon the formation of an oligarchic-despotic system in the EU,” says Prof. in an interview with the portal wPolityce.pl. Ryszard Legutko, PiS Member of the European Parliament.
wPolityce.pl: Changes to the EU treaties cause huge controversies. Is today’s community so far removed from Robert Schuman’s thoughts?
Prof. Ryszard Legutko: I do not have the impression that Schuman’s view is radically different. What he wrote about was so vague and internally inconsistent that it could mean very different things. It is of course worth noting that Christian – in the true sense of the word – democrats played an important role at the time, but even then democrats like Jean Monnet came to the fore. That is why I do not agree with the statement that the Community’s vision has not raised any doubts from the beginning. However, at some point the EU was taken over by the left.
