Warring parties in Yemen decided to work for a ceasefire

Yemeni authorities and Houthi rebels have committed to taking steps towards a ceasefire. In this respect reported Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Yemen.

“Following a series of meetings in Riyadh and Muscat, including with Rashad al-Alimi, Chairman of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, and Muhammad Abdul Salam, chief negotiator of the Ansar Allah group, the Secretary-General’s special envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, welcomes the parties to the end of hostilities in the message. ‘movement towards its completion’ is included.

The warring parties confirmed that they are trying to improve living conditions in the country and are ready to start the political process under the auspices of the UN.

The UN Secretary-General’s special envoy will discuss with parties to the conflict a settlement roadmap that includes “parties’ obligations to abide by the ceasefire, pay salaries to all public sector workers and continue oil exports.”

Conflicts in Yemen started in 2014. A coalition of Arab countries led by Saudi Arabia has sided with the Yemeni government in the conflict with Ansarullah rebels who control part of the country.
