Mariusz Kamiński and Maciej Wąsik fought against corruption, and those who led to the situation we are dealing with today are defending criminals, and not the police officers who fought against corruption, said the head of the PiS club, Mariusz Błaszczak , at a press conference in the Sejm. Mariusz Kamiński’s behavior in the Sejm was commented on by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Szymon Hołownia.
The day before yesterday, the District Court in Warsaw handed down a final and final sentence of two years in prison against Mariusz Kamiński and Maciej Wąsik, and one year in prison for the other two former heads of the CBA for operational activities during the ‘land scandal’. “.
Błaszczak defends Kamiński and Wąsik
Yesterday, Marshal of the Sejm Szymon Hołownia took decisions on the expiry of the parliamentary mandates of Mariusz Kamiński and Maciej Wąsik.
The head of the PiS club, Mariusz Błaszczak, said at a press conference in the Sejm that “Ministers Kamiński and Wąsik have fought against corruption, and those who created the situation we are facing today are defending criminals, and no police officers fighting corruption.”
According to Błaszczak, “their bad intentions are proven by the fact that they want to dissolve the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau.”
Let me remind you of what happened until 2015, that even the huge losses in the state budget, in the tens of billions of zlotys, related to the VAT carousel were all possible because the institutions created to fight corruption did not work . So now they want to paralyze the CBA and ensure that those who fought corruption are punished.
– added.
When asked what steps Wąsik and Kamiński plan to take, the head of the PiS club replied that “the actions that are deemed appropriate will be taken, so this is a clear and completely accurate position.”
The case of the former heads of the CBA has a history of almost ten years. In March 2015, the Warsaw-Śródmieście District Court sentenced the former heads of the CBA, Mariusz Kamiński and Maciej Wąsik, at first instance to 3 years in prison, among other things. for exceeding the powers and illegal operational activities of the CBA during the “land scandal” in 2007. Two other former members of the CBA board were sentenced to 2.5 years in prison. Kamiński then said that the verdict “violates the fundamental sense of justice, is bizarre, extremely unjust and incomprehensible.”
The case was brought up again after more than eight years in connection with the Supreme Court’s ruling in June. The Supreme Court of Criminal Chamber, after appeals filed by assistant prosecutors, halted the case of the former heads of the CBA, which was filed by the Warsaw District Court in March 2016 in connection with the pardon law used by President Andrzej Duda against wrongfully convicted former heads of the CBA and referred the case to the Supreme Court for re-examination.
President Andrzej Duda had previously indicated in a letter to the Speaker of the Sejm that as a result of the application of the Law of Pardon in 2015 to Kamiński and Wąsik, who were subsequently unlawfully convicted by the Court of First Instance, there were no grounds for the expiry of their mandate.
Hołownia about Kamiński’s “Kozakiewicz gesture”.
Such things should not take place in the Sejm. We’re talking about a man standing at the prison gate, so I understand he might react in an above-average way
– this is how Marshal of the Sejm Szymon Hołownia assessed the behavior of PiS MP Mariusz Kamiński, who showed the ‘Kozakiewicz gesture’ in the plenary hall.
Speaking to journalists in the Sejm, Hołownia admitted that Kamiński and Wąsik had not yet responded to his letter. He also admitted that he was critical of their presence during the Sejm session.
I see it as a kind of demonstration, but I have also consciously tried not to cause any escalation that could result from this issue.
– he said.
During the meeting, Kamiński, after taking his seat on the parliamentary bench, made a gesture of victory and the “Kozakiewicz gesture”. Speaking to journalists, Hołownia said that “when it comes to customs in the room, such things should not happen.”
We are talking about a man standing at the prison gate. I understand that people in those situations can humanly react differently, have different resistances, experience it in different ways, so I understand humanly that if you find yourself in a situation where you could get killed, you can react in an above-average way. in a moment
– he said.
Hołownia also admitted that he was currently waiting for PiS MPs to complain about the decision of the Sejm chairman. He announced that such a complaint would most likely be sent to the Supreme Court after the holidays.
The decisions I will make in this matter I will make very carefully, balanced and without any haste, but they will be firm and unequivocal in terms of their message.
– he said.
When asked whether the votes in which Kamiński and Wąsik participated were valid because their mandates had previously expired, he replied: “We can have a very big dispute on this issue.”
None of these votes were decided by 1-2 votes, but by a larger majority
– he said.
He noted that lawyers are also involved in the dispute because it is a precedent-setting situation.
““My Hand Won’t Shake”
Hołownia stressed that if the delegates were excluded from the meeting and led away by the Marshal’s guard, this would not contribute to the stabilization of the situation in Poland.
I carry out all my activities in accordance with the law and my hand will not shake if it is necessary to finally deprive the parliamentarians of the opportunity to fulfill their mandate, and there are several methods for this. These are not just physical methods, they are electronic
– noted the President of the Sejm.
