During today’s press conference, the Head of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland, Jan Grabiec, referred to the situation surrounding TVP, arguing, among other things, that “at 11 a.m. a group of aggressive people entered the building. Among them were PiS MPs. He also suggested that… it was the PiS MPs’ fault that “Teleexpress” was not broadcast yesterday.
““Immediate corrective action”
We are starting to work on a new order in public media, Prime Minister Donald Tusk has already started talks with President Andrzej Duda. This work should be very broad in scope and take into account the views of all stakeholders
– said Jan Grabiec, head of the Prime Minister’s Chancellery.
During a press conference at the Prime Minister’s Chancellery, Grabiec referred to the issue of the Sejm resolution regarding public media. As he noted, “this resolution, among other things, Referring to the judgment of the Constitutional Court of December 13, 2016, it points out the need to take “immediate corrective measures” to “restore the rule of law and improve access to information for citizens guarantee” until appropriate legal solutions are implemented.
In light of this resolution, we are beginning to work on a new order when it comes to public media. Prime Minister Donald Tusk has already started discussions about this with President Andrzej Duda. This work should be very broad in scope, take place in an atmosphere of social dialogue and take into account the opinions of all interested parties, including creative communities and civil society associations.
– announced the head of the Prime Minister’s Chancellery.
““New order of public media”
The government wants to work on the new order of public media in an open, transparent manner and with an open curtain. Of course, the president’s voice on this issue will also be important. But we also count on the participation of representatives of the journalistic community in this work
– replied the head of the Prime Minister’s Chancellery.
He added that the government is also counting on the participation of representatives of the scientific community and “those dealing with media freedom issues” in this work.
We know that this topic has been worked on for the past eight years. Although not in the Sejm, many circles worked on how to strengthen the position of the public media so that they could actually be a window to the world for public opinion in Poland, and not an arm of the ruling party.
– Grabiec noticed.
According to him, it is time to “make TVP real TVP, make it Telewizja Polska.”
Working towards good order in the public media will not surprise either the president or the participants in the public debate. We will certainly implement these appropriately to allow for full public consultations
– declared the head of the Prime Minister’s Chancellery.
“There was no Teleexpress… because of PiS MPs?
During the press conference, the head of the Prime Minister’s Chancellery was expected to describe the events of Tuesday and Wednesday in connection with the change of power in the public media. The thing is, he seemed to be presenting his own version of it.
He recalled that Culture Minister Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz had announced general meetings of shareholders of public media companies on December 19. During the meeting, decisions were adopted on the dismissal of supervisory boards of public media companies.
On the same day, TVP’s Supervisory Board appointed Tomasz Sygut, chairman of TVP’s board of directors. The next day, December 20, the Chairman of the Supervisory Board and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of TVP came to TVP and met with the dismissed President (proxy-PAP), Przemysław Herbut. The outgoing president has taken note of the decisions of the Supervisory Board. The new authorities took over the management of the company. The outgoing president proposed a meeting with TVP staff and the new TVP authorities. The meeting did not take place because at 11 a.m. a group of aggressive people, including PiS MPs, broke into the TVP building. The outgoing chairman of TVP and the chairman of the new Supervisory Board came to the meeting with PiS MPs. Unfortunately, the attempt to talk ended with insults and aggressive behavior from PiS MPs and their supervisors
– Grabiec noted.
The politician suggested that an attempt had been made to block the TVP president’s office and prevent him from carrying out his official duties. That is why the new president of TVP informed the police. According to Grabiec, due to the “aggressive behavior of PiS parliamentarians and bystanders, the neo-president of TVP submitted a report on the possibility of committing a crime by restricting freedom of movement, performing official duties and disorganize.” The head of the Prime Minister’s Chancellery made no mention of a certain broad-shouldered man and the injured Law and Justice MP.
The head of the Prime Minister’s Chancellery called on all people involved in this situation to remain calm.
I especially appeal to PiS MPs, who have shown a lot of emotion, to stop aggressive behavior and stop blocking public media.
– said Grabiec.
He noted that citizens were waiting for “reliable information and real public media.”
I know that TVP staff are doing everything they can to ensure that all TVP programs can function immediately and reach all interested parties.
– said the head of the Prime Minister’s Chancellery.
One of the PiS MPs asked why there was no “Teleexpress” yesterday. PiS MPs prevented the functioning of television and blocked the ability to broadcast normal news programs. We believe that all behavior in the TVP building should be explained by the police and the prosecutor’s office, and then assessed by the court. There is no doubt that the evidence gathered on the behavior of bystanders and MPs will provide the basis for taking further action
– said Grabiec.
According to the head of the Prime Minister’s Chancellery, was the tall, bald man who mauled PiS MP Joanna Borowiak a PiS MP or a person accompanying them? Jan Grabiec had apparently forgotten this. One thing is certain: the youngest voters, who previously voted for opposition parties just to remove PiS from power, apparently have not experienced the arrogance and arrogance of Tusk’s government. Today they have the chance to observe this phenomenon in its full glory.
