The investigative committee into the visa scandal could start work before Christmas, KO MP Michał Szczerba, who is running to serve on the committee, told PAP. Maciej Konieczny, a left-wing MP, says the former deputy minister of the Foreign Ministry, Piotr Wawrzyk, and the former head of the Foreign Ministry, Minister Zbigniew Rau, should be summoned before the committee.
On Tuesday evening, the Sejm adopted a resolution on the creation of a commission of inquiry into the so-called visa scandal. The committee will consist of 11 parliamentarians. This is the second investigative committee established by the Sejm of the new term. 259 MPs voted in favor of the resolution establishing the investigative committee, 79 were against and one person abstained. More than 100 PiS MPs did not participate in the vote.
Michał Szczerba will sit on the committee on behalf of the Civic Coalition. In an interview with PAP, the politician emphasizes that there will be some explanations. “This is a huge, devastating scandal because it also involves the loss of the country’s image,” he said.
The scandal also led to unfavorable solutions, for example with regard to the Polish-German border, when our partners feared that, as a result of organized corruption, people ended up there on the basis of bribes and not on the basis of verification of the necessary
– said Szczerba, adding that during the parliamentary inspection at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs he collected documentation showing that information about visas had been known for years.
Szczerba wants to interrogate Rau and Wawrzyk
When asked who he would like to interview first, Szczerba named former Foreign Ministry head Zbigniew Rau and former Deputy Foreign Minister Piotr Wawrzyk.
The composition of the committee will be determined in the Sejm on Thursday. I would like us to meet before the holidays to form ourselves and elect the presidency
– added.
Maciej Konieczny, the left candidate for the committee on the so-called visa scandal, in an interview with PAP he admits that after the holidays, at the beginning of the year, work could start.
It will certainly be necessary to invite to the committee several responsible ministers, both supervisory and political, namely Deputy Minister Piotr Wawrzyk and Minister Zbigniew Rau, as well as representatives of the consular department, because these are the people directly responsible for the Visa. scandal.
– says the left-wing MP.
In his opinion, “it is worthwhile for the committee to investigate how the work permit system works in Poland and whether it actually plays its role.”
This is not just about the visa scandal, but also about whether the companies that apply for such permits actually employ such people.
– added.
I hope that this committee will be a space for a rational debate on migration policy, and not for creating unnecessary fear and changing the question of who has brought in more workers, because these workers will be there, and the point is to do this sensibly to organise.
– he emphasized.
