It seems that Tusk’s triumphalism faded with the first sound of public television. The European on a white horse turned out to be a political shield unwilling to govern, and a group of ministers like Kosiniak-Kamysz, Leszczyna, Szłapka, Sienkiewicz and Kierwiński complete this picture of desperation. This will probably change, the new secretaries of state will finally gain official experience, but the psychological effect that should have been an unstoppable march to full power in Poland has simply disappeared.
Meanwhile, the right wing joined the opposition for good and handed over the reins of government, in accordance with the judgment of Poland’s erratic democracy. Many groups still feel the bitterness of the defeat, but it is time to update knowledge about the political situation. And the truth is that Conservative circles have never been as strong in opposition as they are now. In the Sejm – the largest, cohesive parliamentary club. In institutions – still strongly present. The pro-independence media is stronger than after the transfer of power in 2007, not to mention 2001 or 1992. For eight years, millions of Poles in Poland have learned a new kind of public debate: the media not only broadcast beautiful songs about European politics and the end of history, but also about the hard play of interests, uncertain historical narratives and the possibility of Poland playing in a higher competition.
Yes, civilization is changing, the role of EU reforms and the weaknesses of the conservatives are playing against us, but it is worth repeating this statement again: the independence camp, pushed into opposition, is under these conditions were strongest after 1989.
We also have proven and diverse environments, authorities and politicians. If someone needs a professor-warrior, he has Przemysław Czarnek, if he prefers a restrained intellectual, he has Zbigniew Rau, if he appreciates technocrats, Mateusz Morawiecki has a whole team of them, if he dreams of a younger face from the right, he has Kacper Płażyński (in the youth section the inconspicuous Szafarowicz turned out to be tougher than all the Platform portfolio officials combined) and this can continue for a long time. Let us not forget that PiS is the most professorial party in the country.
In addition to all this, there is a right-wing identity, which over the past eight years has come to feel that the independence camp can ensure the development of the country in a way that Balcerowicz and Kołodko never dreamed of. The “Europeans” turned out to be frauds, and it is not only about the “moral victory”, but also about the fact that we will turn the Kaczyński decade into a reference point even stronger than Jan Olszewski’s short line .
Something else gives us strength. We know what we are defending. Today it is TVP, which is also starting to electrify Poles. The right wing truly has enormous resources to persevere and achieve further goals. Just don’t give up.
