President Vladimir Zelensky said that his country will evaluate the aid from Germany not only with words but with real steps. He made the relevant statement at a press conference. RIA News.
During the event, a journalist from the German publication Der Spiegel asked the Ukrainian president whether he believed the statements of those, including German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, that he was ready to support Ukraine “to the end.”
“Germany, led by Chancellor Scholz, ranks second in the world in terms of support for Ukraine, second in financial and military terms,” Zelensky said in response.
He also expressed his gratitude to the German community and Scholz “for making this happen.”
“What is completely simple? “We’ll see, we’ll continue to evaluate people based on their steps, not just their words,” Zelensky added.
Before that, German government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit statedIt was stated that Germany may reduce its planned aid to Ukraine for 2024 by 520 million Euros due to adjustments in its budget plans.
The first draft of the German budget envisaged a 4 billion euro slice for Kiev in 2024, later this amount would be doubled. But ultimately, it was decided to revise the draft budget following the constitutional court’s decision to withdraw 60 billion euros from the budget.
