With good management, the capacity of Chopin and Modlin airports can be increased – said KO MP Maciej Lasek, nominated for the position of plenipotentiary government official for the CPK. As he said, it is also necessary to find a way to save the airport in Radom.
On Monday on Radio Zet, KO MP Maciej Lasek, chairman of the State Commission for the Investigation of Aircraft Accidents in 2012-2016, was asked whether he had been chosen to succeed Marcin Horała in the CPK project and would be the government’s plenipotentiary for this his airport, revealed that he was in discussions with the Prime Minister about the matter.
When the Prime Minister makes this decision and signs the appointment, we can discuss it further
– he answered.
Asked when this might happen, he said: “Let’s be patient. Probably soon”
As he said, he is in favor of “making investments like CPK more realistic.” He noted that he did not believe in the CPK’s launch date of 2028. He estimated the dates were closer to “2032 or maybe 2035”.
If we want to build the CPK, let’s do it based on sustainable thinking. Do we need more highways? If we build these roads and build a railway line along them at the same time, where will people change? To the rail or to the road? There are many of these problems and that is why we want to do a serious analysis first. I think it will take a few months. It’s not long now
– noted Maciej Lasek.
According to him, with certain measures the capacity of Chopin and Modlin airports can be increased to up to 30 million passengers.
With good management, we are able to reach up to 40 million passengers from the duoport – i.e. Okęcie and the expanded Modlin and the completed modernization of Chopin Airport
– added.
According to him, Okęcie’s capacity is 22 million passengers.
If the modernization is implemented, it will be 27 to 28 million passengers. Modlin has been artificially inhibited for years
– said Lasek.
According to him, Modlin airport has the potential “to accommodate 10 million passengers or even more”.
I am also in favor of saving Radom (Radom airport – PAP)
– added.
Let’s (…) do something to save this airport. Even on the distant horizon there is no profitability for this airport. We also have to find a way to deal with it
– said Lasek.
Let us imagine that we have one central airport – at the moment I have not yet decided if and when the airport will be built – which will replace it, but on a reasonable basis and on reasonable conditions; we have Chopin, which we can use more without losses for the residents of the area, and at the same time with excellent transport connections we have Modlin
– he said.
CPK project
The Central Communication Port is a planned transfer hub between Warsaw and Łódź, which will integrate air, rail and road transport. As part of this project, an airport will be built 37 km west of Warsaw, on an area of approximately 3,000 hectares. The CPK also includes railway investments: a hub at the airport and connections throughout the country, allowing travel between Warsaw and the largest Polish cities in no longer than 2.5 hours. CPK is 100 percent owned by the Ministry of Finance. (DAD)
It was envisaged that the first phase of the airport, i.e. two parallel runways and infrastructure to handle 40 million passengers, would start in 2028. The CPK General Plan assumes that the airport will subsequently be expanded in a modular manner.
