General Jarosław Stróżyk became the head of the Military Counterintelligence Service and Colonel Dorota Kawecka became the head of the Military Intelligence Service – said Cezary Tomczyk, deputy head of the Ministry of National Defense on Tuesday.
I sincerely congratulate you. This is an important moment in the history and current activities of the Polish state – that the state has eyes and ears, that the state knows it can count on its services. The service chiefs are now undergoing the appropriate procedures and assuming their roles
– said Tomczyk.
On December 13, the parliamentary committee on secret services issued a positive opinion on Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s request to dismiss the heads of the Internal Security Agency, AW, CBA, SKW and SWW.
The MPs gave a positive opinion on the motions received before the committee meeting to appoint the head of the intelligence service, Col. Bartosz Jarmuszkiewicz, Internal Security Service – Col. Krzysztof Wacławek, Military Intelligence – Brigadier General. Marek Łapiński and the Military Counterintelligence Service – Brigadier General. Maciej Szpanowski and the head of the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau, Andrzej Stróżny.
Macierewicz has been deprived of protection
The farce of the so-called Smolensk subcommittee is closed; Antoni Macierewicz was not given protection. There will also be a team at the Ministry of National Defense that will investigate the activities of the subcommittee, but for now we can say that the picture is frightening, the deputy head of the Ministry of National Defense Cezary Tomczyk emphasized.
At the press conference, Tomczyk referred to the issue of the dissolution of the Ministry of National Defense’s subcommittee on the re-investigation of the Tu-154 plane crash near Smolensk, known as the Smolensk Subcommittee.
By decision of the head of the Ministry of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz on December 15, the subcommittee on the re-investigation of the Smolensk disaster was liquidated. Subcommittee members were required to complete all documentation, property and equipment used for the subcommittee’s work by Monday, December 18.
On Tuesday, Tomczyk confirmed that subcommittee members moved to their current building at ul. Kolska in Warsaw, which was sealed and secured by the Ministry of National Defense.
The decision of Deputy Prime Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz was implemented, the commission returned the equipment and materials, or all of them – this will be determined by a special team
– said the deputy minister.
He added that the Ministry of Defense is in contact with military aviation to establish appropriate procedures for transferring the documentation to the subcommittee.
End of this expensive farce. This farce, which was linked to the activities of Antoni Macierewicz (head of the subcommittee), who acted on behalf of the Polish state, has come to an end.
– said Tomczyk.
He added that the head of the Ministry of National Defense had also decided “to withdraw from the protection of Antoni Macierewicz by the Military Police.
So the issue of protection for Antoni Macierewicz by the gendarmerie and a company car is also closed
– added.
As he noted, Macierewicz had had such funds since he ended his term as head of the Department of National Defense in 2018.
Tomczyk emphasized that a team from the Ministry of National Defense will soon begin its work, which will “examine the entire activity of this pathological subcommittee of Antoni Macierewicz in terms of facts, formal and legal aspects.”
I don’t say “pathological” for nothing, because after having the opportunity to read the subcommittee material for a few days, I can say that the picture is truly terrifying.
– said Tomczyk. According to him, the subcommittee was created to “create and prove a lie.”
He announced that the team would be named in the coming days.
Naturally, we would like him to act transparently, complete his work and present a report, so that this report becomes public
– he declared.
He added that the relevant departments of the Ministry of National Defense “have already started collecting materials” related to the activities of the Smolensk Subcommittee.
We must draw very serious conclusions for the Polish state from this history
– added.
On April 10, 2010, the crash of the Tu-154M aircraft near Smolensk killed all passengers and crew: 96 people, including President Lech Kaczyński and his wife. The Polish delegation was on its way to the ceremony marking the 70th anniversary of the Katyn massacre.
In 2010-2011, the causes of the Smolensk crash were investigated by the State Aviation Accident Investigation Commission, chaired by the then head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration Jerzy Miller. In the report presented in July 2011, the commission determined that the cause of the disaster was the descent below the minimum descent height, which resulted in a collision of the aircraft with trees, leading to the gradual destruction of the Tu-154M -structure. According to the Commission, neither the audio recorders nor the flight parameters confirm the suspicion of an explosion on board the aircraft.
The Subcommittee for the Re-investigation of the Smolensk Disaster was established under the regulation of February 4, 2016, signed by the then Minister of National Defense Antoni Macierewicz. The first meeting took place on March 7, 2016.
