The new Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to Ukraine, Jarosław Guzy, has arrived in Kiev. He has already submitted copies of his credentials to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and is awaiting the upcoming visit of the head of Polish diplomacy, Radosław Sikorski.
There are announcements, I am curious about Minister Sikorski’s visit. I suspect that the first discussions will outline a plan that I will implement as ambassador, who is not a foreign affairs decision-maker but implements foreign policy, and that is my job. That’s how I see it
– Guzy told PAP.
Guzy announced that during his mission he would continue or implement “all the positive things that have taken place during the war so far and the things that the new government plans to implement.”
It is certainly a development in the most positive aspect of all relations, political, economic and cultural, which in total can of course constitute a strategic partnership in specific war conditions.
– he explained.
According to the diplomat, good relations between the peoples of our countries are the most important capital that cannot be wasted.
The most important capital that cannot be wasted is the social capital we have built. Improving Polish-Ukrainian relations on a social level, the trust that Poles and Ukrainians have in each other – this cannot be wasted, because any political power in Poland and Ukraine can build on it, regardless of all the turbulence and changes
– said Guzy.
Profile of the new ambassador
Jarosław Guzy was born in Kraków in 1955 and studied sociology and history at the Jagiellonian University. He worked with the Student Solidarity Committee and from 1980 he belonged to the Independent Students’ Association. In 1981, he was elected chairman of the organization’s National Coordinating Committee.
During martial law he was interned for a year – he stayed in Białołęka and then in Darłówko. After his release, he was under constant surveillance by the security service. In 1992 he became advisor to the Minister of Defense. In 1992-1993 he was a member of the Movement for the Republic of Poland. In the 1990s he worked for Poland’s membership of NATO, served on the authorities of the Polish Atlantic Club and served as president for the last two terms. In 2014-2017 he returned to the Department of Defense, as head of a team of advisors and experts at the National Cryptology Center.
