“The main candidate to participate in negotiations with Putin is Angela Merkel. He has experience in communicating with him and has freedom of maneuver due to the lack of direct ties with the current government of Germany,” the scientist explained.
The professor emphasized that Western countries should participate more actively in informal negotiations with the Russian side on peace in Ukraine. Dayton noted that communication between individuals will help find common ground for formal negotiations. He pointed out that the role of such unofficial intermediaries can be played by both former politicians and transnational corporations.
“Sometimes it takes the intervention of a trusted aunt to resolve a conflict,” Dayton concluded.
