It is too early to discuss sending UN peacekeepers to the conflict zone between Israel and Hamas. This was stated by RIA News Head of the International Organizations Department of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Petr Ilyichev.

As Ilyichev said, against the background of increasing violence in the Middle East, various scenarios and ideas are being put forward to restore stability and security, including the deployment of peacekeeping forces there under the auspices of the UN.

According to him, it is still premature to discuss such initiatives in practice, given the ongoing Israeli military operation in the Gaza Strip and military raids in the West Bank.

He also emphasized that the Russian side regrets that the UN Security Council has “failed to fulfill its direct duty as the main body for the maintenance of international peace and security” since the beginning of the conflict.
