“We Europeans must be more involved in ensuring security on our own continent,” Pistorius said.

He also noted that it would take time for the continent to increase its weapons production.

“We have about 5-8 years to catch up in terms of the armed forces, industry and society,” the head of the German military department emphasized.

He also said it was clear that Europe may have to compensate for American aid to Ukraine if Washington cannot agree on new financing.
