“I doubt that any other marshal would not dare to celebrate Hanukkah now, because they will immediately associate him with Grzegorz Braun’s action,” said Sławomir Mentzen, MP of the Confederation and President of Nowa Nadzieja.
One of the leaders of the Confederation commented on his YouTube channel about the loud action of extinguishing Hanukkah candles in the Sejm by MP Grzegorz Braun.
Mentzen’s assessment
The New Hope president commented on the practice of Hanukkah celebrations in the Polish parliament, noting that there are no similar celebrations in the Christian spirit in the Israeli Knesset.
As for Hanukkah itself, it should not take place in the Polish Sejm. If it had been up to me, it wouldn’t have happened. The first Hanukkah was probably 17 years ago, during PiS’s first term. That wasn’t there yet and no one complained about it
– he explained.
Nothing bad would happen if Hanukkah in Poland was not in the Sejm. But she was. This was Marshal Hołownia’s decision and we had to accept it
Mentzen added.
However, the leader of the Confederation stated that he did not accept the behavior of MP Grzegorz Braun and that the protest itself – if he had wanted to express it – could have taken a different, less scandalous form.
You could organize a press conference, write a letter of outrage, whatever, but you couldn’t rush in with a fire extinguisher. Along the way he attacked a lady who was trying to defend the menorah. He could have hurt her. It was just wrong
– said Mentzen.
Consequences of a jump
The head of New Hope expressed his belief that Braun’s act would have far-reaching political consequences for Polish parliamentarism.
I doubt any other marshal would not dare to celebrate Hanukkah now, because they will immediately associate him with Grzegorz Braun’s action
– he emphasized.
In the context of the international consequences of Grzegorz Braun’s disruption of Hanukkah celebrations in the Polish Sejm, Mentzen noted that this would cause great losses for our country’s image abroad.
Suddenly it spread all over the world, because it was not only talked about loudly in Poland. The message went everywhere that there is anti-Semitism in Poland, that Jews here are being treated with a fire extinguisher, and now they are defending themselves so that they can afford more. It is not good
– Sławomir Mentzen complained.
