Those in power try to turn something that was obvious into their success; these 5 billion euros have already been allocated to Poland: it is compensation for giving up Russian energy sources, said the head of the PiS club, Mariusz Błaszczak. We expected a little more, he added.
Attempts to turn the obvious into success
The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced after a meeting with Prime Minister Donald Tusk that the EC is prepared to transfer 5 billion euros as an advance to Poland. As she said, this will help Poland carry out decarbonization work and fight climate change.
When Mariusz Błaszczak was asked during the press conference about the European Commission’s decision on the 5 billion euro advance, he replied: “A little rain comes from a big cloud.”
This 5 billion euros has already been allocated in the middle of this year. This is compensation for giving up Russian energy resources. We expected a little more, but it turns out that those in power are trying to turn the obvious into their success
– said Błaszczak.
Tusk’s promises regarding the KPO
He added that the fundamental issue is the entire National Reconstruction Plan.
It was announced that the entire KPO would be launched. We were previously told that milestones had to be achieved before the KPO could be launched. Today we hear that what was previously decided has been decided again, so we are dealing with an attempt at mystification, an attempt to justify decisions already made with an action that is now
– said the PiS politician.
According to Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz, Minister of Funds and Regional Policy, Poland will receive an advance from the KPO revision worth more than 5 billion euros in December. In addition, she announced the submission of the first payment application from the National Reconstruction Plan, which amounts to almost EUR 7 billion (over PLN 31 billion), of which almost EUR 2.8 billion from the grant part and EUR 4.22 billion from the loan.
On December 8, EU Finance Ministers approved the decision proposed by the European Commission on the amended Polish KPO and the new chapter of REPowerEU. As the Ministry of FiPR reported at the time, this paved the way for an advance of 5.1 billion euros from REPowerEU funds to Poland.
The Polish chapter of REPowerEU consists of seven new reforms, seven new investments and three investments carried over from the original plan (two of which have been extended). Its implementation is intended to help achieve the REPowerEU plan’s goal of making Europe independent of Russian fossil fuels well before 2030.
