Today I will sign a letter to the Minister of Foreign Affairs to explain how Piotr Serafin is taking up the position of Permanent Representative to the EU, bypassing the normal procedure – told former Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Szymon Szynkowski , also known as Sęk (PiS), to PAP on Thursday.
“‘Unlawful removal of the ambassador’
Poland’s permanent representative to the EU, Andrzej Sadoś, went to Warsaw for consultations on Wednesday after being summoned by the Foreign Ministry. On Thursday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Sadoś had been recalled to the country and released from the obligation to work, and from December 13, 2023, the Permanent Representation to the EU in Brussels will be headed by Piotr Serafin, with the rank of Minister Plenipotentiary .
Szynkowski vel Sęk vel Sęk said in the third program of Polish Radio that the “unlawful removal of the ambassador” is a “political bandit”. According to him, recalling the ambassador for consultations diminishes the importance of the relationship.
Today I will sign a letter to explain how Piotr Serafin, bypassing the normal procedure, which must also take into account the consent of the President, is taking on the position of the person who will perform the duties of the Permanent Representative to the EU must fulfill.
– he inquired.
This is a very bad step
– he assessed.
In an interview with PAP, Szynkowski vel.Sęk clarified that he would send this letter to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and pass it on to the Minister of Affairs of the European Union.
“None of this has been done.”
MFA spokesperson Paweł Wroński announced at the press conference on Thursday that Minister Radosław Sikorski had previously informed President Andrzej Duda about the step regarding the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Poland to the EU – “that he would request the recall of the ambassador ( Sadoś) for consultations, but this does not mean that the ambassador should be recalled.”
Minister Radosław Sikorski said that he would nominate Minister Plenipotentiary Piotr Serafin for the position of Permanent Representative of Poland to the EU, which means that, in my opinion, the decision will be up to the President.
– said Wroński. When asked what Sadoś’s current situation was, he explained that “he was drafted, he is still ambassador, but he doesn’t have to work.”

Szynkowski vel Sęk pointed out that “Article 39 of the Foreign Service Act clearly states that the application of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, approved by the Minister of EU Affairs, must be sent to the President.”
None of this was done
– added.
““It’s a Mistake”
In turn, Szynkowski vel Sęk judged in a post on the X Platform that Sikorski’s move during an important summit in Brussels is a step that “will be difficult to understand even for European politicians.”
Due to the applicable legal status, it is not possible to dismiss the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Poland to the EU without the consent of the President of the Republic of Poland.
As far as I know, such a procedure has not even been initiated, let alone completed.
Andrzej Sadoś remains the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Poland to the EU.
Summoning the Ambassador for consultations and downgrading the status of the Mission’s representation to the EU during the EU-Western Balkans Summit and probably during the European Council is a step that will be difficult to understand even for European politicians, most of whom support Tusk, not to mention the diplomatic corps. This is a mistake.
