It seems that all the KPO milestones were a lie, that the only milestone was the return of Donald Tusk to power. Tusk will not receive the KPO for free, that much is certain. The question is whether the price will be consent to changes in treaties that will take away Poland’s sovereignty – said the head of the PiS club, Mariusz Błaszczak..
Błaszczak: “Milestones were a lie”
MP Błaszczak posted a recording on the X website (formerly Twitter) in which he referred to the issue of National Reconstruction Plan funds for Poland. He referred to the statement of the EU Commissioner for Budget and Administration, Johannes Hahn, who said in an interview for Reuters that the European Commission would find a way to make available 111 billion euros to Poland from EU funds, including the KPO program and the Cohesion Fund. Reuters recalled that this was the first official statement by an EU commissioner on EU funds for Poland since the change of government in Warsaw.
EU Commissioner for Budget and Administration Johannes Hahn has just announced that the European Commission will find a way to make money from the National Reconstruction Plan available to Poland. Do you know what that means? It seems that all the supposed milestones were a lie, that the only milestone is the return of Donald Tusk to power, at all costs
– said Błaszczak in the recording.
PiS politician: ‘Tusk will not get KPO for free’
As he judged: “The European Commission influenced the results of the elections in Poland and lied to Poles for months that we could not get these funds without meeting imaginary conditions.”
Donald Tusk won’t receive KPO for free, that’s for sure. The question is what the price is. Will it be an agreement to adopt changes in treaties that will take away Poland’s sovereignty? Not a few billions from Brussels are worth it, and we will speak out about that. No matter how Donald Tusk lies and deceives the Poles, we will ensure that Poland does not lose its sovereignty. We will watch over Poland
– said the head of the PiS club.
Donald Tusk arrived in Brussels on Wednesday afternoon to take part in the EU-Western Balkans summit and European Council meeting. When journalists asked him about the payment of EU money to Poland, he replied that he asked for patience and announced that the results of his talks would be “on the table” on Friday. He explained that the issue of disbursing money from the Cohesion Fund “is analogous to the KPO funds, and therefore does not require separate actions.”
KPO is a program from which Poland will receive EUR 59.82 billion (PLN 261.4 billion), of which EUR 25.28 billion (PLN 110.4 billion) in the form of grants and EUR 34.5 billion (PLN 151 billion) in the form of preferential loans. The majority of these resources will be invested in the form of financial instruments, which will allow the implementation of projects after 2026, even for the next 30 years.
The Cohesion Fund (established in 1994) makes funds available for environmental protection projects and for projects within the trans-European networks in Member States whose gross national income per capita does not reach 90%. EU average. It was established to strengthen the economic, social and territorial cohesion of the European Union and thus promote sustainable development. During the 2021-2027 programming period, the Fund will support: investments for the environment, including areas related to sustainable development and energy that deliver environmental benefits; trans-European transport infrastructure networks (TEN-T), technical assistance.
EC President Ursula von der Leyen will meet the new head of the Polish government on Friday, according to European Commission spokesman Eric Mamer.
