The president’s cooperation with the government will largely depend on Prime Minister Donald Tusk; sometimes it will be better, sometimes worse; It is important that key issues such as security move forward, the head of the President’s Office, Marcin Mastalerek, said on Wednesday.
Mastalerek told Polsat News that cooperation between President Andrzej Duda and the government will largely depend on Prime Minister Donald Tusk and his ministers.
I think sometimes it will be better, sometimes worse, some people will work better together, others worse. It is important that the key issues such as security – both military and internal, and energy, including the issue of Polish nuclear energy – make progress.
– he said. He added that the president does not expect consultation with the government on every bill.
Duda-Tusk relations
When asked about the personal relations between Andrzej Duda and Donald Tusk, the head of the president’s office admitted that the men did not know each other before and did not work together.
Naturally, President Andrzej Duda remembers the years of cohabitation in 2007-2010, because he was Lech Kaczyński’s minister from 2008, and draws conclusions from them. He will be willing to cooperate, but he will defend his program and will not forget what this cooperation looked like at the time
– he said.
Eight years of cooperation between the president and the government, coming from one camp, has come to an end. Now we’re going to live together. I think that the Poles will be able to draw conclusions very quickly about who has good will, who wants to manage Polish affairs and who does not. Poles are smart and politicians better be careful and behave responsibly
– Mastalerek commented.
Mastalerek did not reveal the details of Monday’s conversation between the president and the prime minister. When asked, he said that politicians had not switched to ‘you’.
They didn’t pass. I think it will be better this way: it’s the president and the prime minister
– he emphasized.
The head of the President’s Office was asked whether Andrzej Duda did not regret appointing Mateusz Morawiecki as Prime Minister – after this decision the President lost support in the trust rankings and is currently overtaken by Szymon Hołownia, Rafał Trzaskowski and Donald Tusk.
It was a very good decision and the president is satisfied with it. He believes that he has kept the tradition alive and given Prime Minister Morawiecki, whose formation won the elections, the opportunity to build a coalition. The Prime Minister did not succeed, he fought to the end, unfortunately without success. If President Duda handed over the mission to form a government to Donald Tusk, first of all, these formations were not ready, they had no mutual agreement, they had no ministers, they had no deputy ministers. Poland would lose time, and I think less than two months is a very good result compared to European countries. It’s good, the president is happy with it
– he said.
Trust Rankings
Referring to trust rankings, Mastalerek emphasized that they do not decide who becomes president.
If there were no two-term system in Poland, I am deeply convinced, President Duda would run for office and defeat all of today’s potential candidates.
– said Mastalek.
The head of the President’s Office also commented on the words of PiS President Jarosław Kaczyński, who said that Donald Tusk is a “German agent”.
I know of no evidence that would support such a statement. I am no longer the spokesperson for PiS, I am no longer the spokesperson for President Kaczyński, so let others defend these words. I would never say that and I’m not going to defend those words because either someone has proof and will show it, or they don’t.
– he assessed.
