MP Grzegorz Braun is not my thing. I treat it as a kind of parliamentary curiosity. So his performance, thoroughly barbaric, is not my cup of tea either. However, I think that the Member of Parliament took all possible consequences into account in his actions. The pedestal for the martyrs is empty…
However, I would like to take a step back and ask why the Polish parliament celebrated Hanukkah? Why were Hanukkah candles lit in the Polish Parliament? What is so special about the Jewish holiday that it should be celebrated in our parliament? Will Islamic Ramadan also be celebrated? Will other holidays of all religious minorities be celebrated in the Sejm? Commemorating the Holocaust is one thing, and celebrating religious rites in the Sejm building is another. And one more thing: a Hanukkah candlestick is not a menorah!
