The European Commission (EC) has approved a draft directive on foreign agents called the “Democracy Protection Package”. This is stated in circulation expression.
The document will require all representatives of interests of states outside the European Union to register on the EU transparency register, with the obligation to indicate all payments received from a foreign state.
The EU is concerned that excessive openness in the work of European political institutions could be exploited by foreign governments.
In the statement, it was stated that the package was approved before the European Parliament elections to be held on 6-9 June 2024. EU countries will be instructed to create national registries suitable for these purposes.
In order for the norms to be implemented, the “Democracy Package” must be approved by the European Parliament and the EU Council.

According to the publication, before the money reaches Kiev, EU countries will need to unanimously support the plan to accommodate Russia’s interests and take further steps towards its implementation.
