Poland’s budget deficit is almost equal to the republic’s spending on the army, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said. He mentioned this in his opening speech in the Polish parliament, according to reports RIA News.

According to Morawiecki, spending on the army ensures Poland’s independence and security. Today military spending accounts for 4% of GDP.

“4% of GDP for Poland’s security is the basis of our independence and security <…> If we subtract these expenses from our budget deficit, it would be below 1 percent, slightly above zero,” Morawiecki explained.
