Hungary’s ruling party, Fides – Hungarian Civil Union, has cited four reasons that prevent Ukraine from joining the EU in the foreseeable future. This was reported by TASS.
According to the agency, the party’s position on this issue was presented by FIDES Communications Director Istvan Hollick.
The first reason given is that Ukraine is at war and “neither its borders nor its population are fully defined”.
The second reason is that Ukraine has received more money from the EU in the last two years than Hungary, Slovenia and Croatia received in the last seven years combined.
“But this money didn’t change anything [на Украине]“There is still no peace and the loss of life on the battlefield continues,” Hollick said.
The third reason is that if Ukraine joins the European Union, all other countries of the Commonwealth will become “net donors”, meaning that Kiev will be the only country receiving economic aid from the EU. According to the Financial Times, Ukraine can expect to receive €186 billion if it joins, which would destroy the EU’s financial reserves and make it impossible for other countries to receive subsidies.
The fourth reason is the accelerated admission program for Ukraine. Hollick reminded that Hungary had to wait 10 years, from 1994 to 2004, to join the Commonwealth of Nations, and other countries followed a similar path. “They just want to make an exception for Ukraine,” the politician complained.
On December 9, Ukraine agreed attractive To the European Union on the opening of negotiations on EU membership.
December 8, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban offered Ukraine has an alternative to European Union membership.
Previously Orban said About a possible slowdown in relations between the EU and Ukraine.
