NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said the military and financial support given to Ukraine was a “good opportunity to spend money” of the alliance states. His words guide the way TASS.
Asked how 2 percent of GDP should be spent on defense spending, as required by the North Atlantic Alliance, Stoltenberg said “it might help.”
“NATO has many good opportunities, first of all, assistance to Ukraine. If you suddenly have money, I advise you to invest it in helping Ukraine,” said the general secretary.
Defense One publication, citing an earlier study by McKinsey reportedNorth Atlantic Alliance countries have yet to meet their obligation to spend 2% of GDP on defence. Analyst Guillaume de Ranieri noted that many NATO countries will need to spend years to reach the target level.
Previously Italy called on NATO not to set unrealistic defense spending targets.
