“The PiS project, rejected by the parliamentary majority, envisaged energy price cuts throughout 2024, and the “chaos coalition” project, still pending, only foresees energy price cuts until the end of June; it is a cynical game for the local elections and the European Parliament elections; you have no shame,” emphasized the head of the Ministry of National Defense, Mariusz Błaszczak.
On Wednesday, the Sejm held the first reading of the bill written by MPs from KO and Poland 2050-TD, aimed at supporting consumers of electricity, gas and heat, as well as the first reading of the bill amending the law supporting consumers of electricity, gas, heat and some other regulations. The MPs voted in favor of continuing work on the parliamentary project; the government project was rejected.
Parliament has chosen to reduce prices only until the end of June
Defense Minister Mariusz Błaszczak commented on the Sejm’s decision on Platform X on Wednesday.
The Law and Justice project, which was rejected by the parliamentary majority, assumed that energy prices would be reduced throughout 2024. The Chaos Coalition project, which continues to be processed, only provides for a reduction until the end of June.

Maintain coalition project
November 28 this year A group of parliamentarians from Poland 2050-TD and KO submitted a draft amendment to the Sejm, extending the freeze on energy prices until June 30, 2024. The parliamentary draft states that the costs of protective measures for six months will amount to PLN 16.5 billion. . The project assumes an extension of maximum energy prices for households by PLN 412 per MWh net until mid-2024 to the current consumption limit, reduced by 50%, because the regulations apply for six months. Above the limit, the rate of PLN 693 per MWh must be maintained as the maximum price, which must also be paid by local authorities and public utilities. The project maintains solutions to reduce gas and heat prices.
The COVID-19 Fund was mentioned as a source of financing, which will be financed from the gas contribution to the Price Difference Fund 2022 and other funds.
The project of the government of Mateusz Morawiecki, which was rejected by the Sejm at first reading, envisaged an extension of the current solutions until 2024, at a cost of approximately PLN 31 billion.
The parliamentary committees on Energy, Climate, Power and Public Finance will discuss the bill on Wednesday.
