The assumption that we should only contact our Democratic friends is simply absurd; when it comes to Poland’s interests, you can even talk to the devil – said PO vice-chairman Tomasz Siemoniak when asked on RMF FM whether the agreement between SKW and FSB was a mistake. He also commented on the announcement of the liquidation of the CBA.
On November 29, the Sejm dismissed eight members of the State Commission for investigating Russian influence on Poland’s internal security in the period 2007-2022. Earlier in the day, the Committee on Russian Influence presented a “partial report” on three months of its work and presented recommendations that Donald Tusk, Jacek Cichocki, Bogdan Klich, Tomasz Siemoniak and Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz should not be entrusted with public positions responsible for the stands. safety thanks to the recognition in 2010-2014 of the Russian FSB for partner service.
The deputy head of the Civic Platform, former Minister of National Defense Tomasz Siemoniak, was asked whether he did not feel that the 2013 agreement between SKW and FSB was “some kind of mistake”.
I do not think so
– he answered.
It had a very clear context, namely: the withdrawal of Polish soldiers from Afghanistan, as well as the fact that several dozen world services had signed similar agreements
– argued Siemoniak.
In general, I think that the secret services are there to – taking advantage of the fact that they are special and operate with great discretion – have contact with everyone.
– added.
“That’s how it goes in the world: diplomats also talk to their opponents.”
Siemoniak said he “sees nothing wrong” in the fact that the agreement was signed to guarantee the safety of Polish soldiers. He added that “this agreement in general was not implemented later, because in 2014 there was the annexation of Crimea, the events in the Donbas, the first stage of the Russian-Ukrainian war.”
However, the assumption that we should only contact democratic friends in the world is simply absurd, because we have spoken in the same way with the Central Asian countries bordering Afghanistan; these countries were also not known for their democracy and respect for human rights. When it comes to Poland’s interests – I always say it – you can even talk to the devil (…) That’s how it goes in the world, diplomats also talk to opponents, enemies, and the services also have some contacts with them
– noted the Vice-President of the PO.
He emphasized that the Public Prosecution Service has been investigating this case for many years and during this period he, as well as Donald Tusk, among others, testified.
Have charges been filed?
– asked Siemoniak.
Even the prosecutor’s office, which raised such accusations of cooperation with a foreign service, almost espionage, because such words were used in PiS journalism, did not ask for arrest (…) From the very beginning it was propaganda
– added.
The deputy head of the PO was also asked about the possible return of officers from the time of the previous government of Donald Tusk to the positions of heads of service or in the structures: Krzysztof Bondaryk, Adam Rapacki, Janusz Nosek.
He emphasized that he was not authorized to comment on this subject, but “he greatly appreciates the above-mentioned people and would be happy if they would commit themselves to state security anywhere.” He added that “those who have already functioned know how difficult it is,” so “it seems to me that these people will be used in different ways, they have their merits for Poland, they have been persecuted over the years, it Public Prosecution Service has been sent against them, attempts have been made to demote them, so they deserve great respect, but it does not necessarily mean that they will return to their place.
He pointed out that “we are in 2023, a lot has changed (…) certainly in what we do – it is not just about the state security sector – it is not like we are going back to 2015.”
The deputy head of the Civic Platform was also asked whether the CBA – in accordance with the provisions of the coalition agreement – would be dissolved by law or by introducing a new head.
This should be a law
– he answered. To the journalist’s comment that President Andrzej Duda would veto it, the politician replied: “We will see how the president will cooperate with the new government.” According to Siemoniak, “it won’t be the case that he will automatically veto everything.”
The CBA is an agency so fraught with scandal, I think the Pegasus case itself is so massive that I don’t know if President Duda, after learning the facts – I don’t know how much he knows about Pegasus at this point – will want to be a defender of such pathologies
– said the KO MP.
Cenckiewicz’s response
My God… it’s very sad and in 2023
– wrote on the X platform Prof. Sławomir Cenckiewicz, referring to Siemoniak’s statement.
