Ukraine’s State Border Guard has announced that it has started checking empty trucks heading to Poland. They pass the Uhrynów-Dołhobycz border crossing. According to Kiev, this will make it possible in the long term to unblock all points on the common border.
From the morning of December 4, the border guards at the Uhrynów border crossing on the way to Ukraine cleared 30 trucks with a permitted weight of up to 7.5 tons. The access of trucks to the border crossing takes place according to the rules of a general queue (without prior registration – PAP)
– said in a message on Telegram.
Ukrainian Border Guard spokesman Andriy Demchenko said in a television program that about 100 trucks were waiting to enter Poland at the Uhrynov border crossing.
We hope that this will allow us to unblock all border crossings on the border with Poland
– he said.
Unlocking the border
A day earlier, on Sunday, Ukrainian Infrastructure Minister Oleksandr Kubrakow explained that opening the Uhryniv-Dołhobychiv border crossing to empty trucks is the first item on the list that Ukraine is implementing to unblock the border.
Previously, this crossing only served passenger cars and buses.
We are working to lift the blockade as soon as possible, taking into account the interests of our market and the state
– said Kubrakov.
Since November 6, Polish transporters have been protesting at the border crossings with Ukraine in Dorohusk and Hrebenne (Lublin Voivodeship) and in Korczowa (Podkarpackie Voivodeship), allowing several cars to pass per hour. The protesters’ demands include: Ukraine introduces a separate queue for cars returning to Poland without goods, and introduces commercial permits for Ukrainian companies to transport goods, with the exception of humanitarian aid and supplies for the Ukrainian army; suspension of permits for companies created after the outbreak of war in Ukraine and their inspection. There is also a proposal to eliminate the so-called electronic queue on the Ukrainian side.
In turn, farmers have also been protesting in Medyka since November 23 and have announced that their action at this border crossing will last until January 3, 2024.
