Advisor to the President Diana Modino, who will assume the role of Minister of Foreign Affairs in the new Cabinet, said that the government of Argentina’s new President Javier Miley may reject membership in a number of regional blocs and international organizations for the sake of savings. His words were quoted in the newspaper La Nacion.

He noted that Buenos Aires will continue its membership in organizations that will be beneficial to the country.

“In friendship clubs, everyone has to pay their own expenses, 47 million Argentines should not have to pay this,” Modino said.

According to him, Argentina should be represented in all international platforms that will help the country’s development. He emphasized that when talking about BRICS, it is necessary to understand “what it is, how it works”.

“There are organizations that are helpful for a specific purpose, and then there are organizations that are clubs of friends,” he said.

On November 30, Diana Mondino published a post on her account on the X platform (formerly Twitter), in which she noted the reluctance of the Argentine leadership to become a member of the BRICS. Moreover, according to him, the team of the elected president of the republic considers it impossible for the country to join this international body, the New Development Bank (NDB).

Previously China commented on Argentina’s plans not to join BRICS.
