North Macedonian Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani said that OSCE member states have approved Malta’s presidency for next year. This was reported by TASS.
“All participating countries agreed that Malta will be next year’s new president. Also, the plan for the presidency of North Macedonia worked; “We managed to extend the terms of office of the four leading positions of the OSCE (Secretary General and heads of autonomous institutions),” he said.
Former Maltese Prime Minister Robert Abela statedIt was stated that if Estonia’s candidacy is not approved, the country could take over the OSCE presidency next year.
Formerly Permanent Representative of Russia to the OSCE Alexander Lukashevich statedIt is stated that the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) is on the verge of continuing its existence. According to him, the “catastrophic practice of freezing all areas of activity” of the organization established by the Polish presidency last year has “already significantly undermined” the tasks assigned to it.
The diplomat also said that North Macedonia’s current presidency has not taken “any concrete steps to rectify this situation.” As Lukashevich pointed out, they rejected large-scale consultations on complex issues and offered options as solutions that were primarily suitable for Western countries.
