The European Parliament, which is demanding changes to the EU treaties, is acting outside its competences and aims to turn the European order upside down – said Joachim Brudziński, PiS MEP in an interview with PAP. He commented on Thursday’s resolution of the European Parliament demanding more power for the EU institutions.
Governments will manage traffic lights at intersections and other tertiary matters?
– OUR INTERVIEW. Jak: At the moment I don’t think about returning to domestic politics unless there is a proposal that guarantees more freedom of choice
This is yet another attempt to confer on itself powers that Parliament has no treaty under any treaty. The attempt to tamper with the EU treaties on the part of the left-wing majority in the EP is nothing more than another attempt to model the shape of Europe against the principles underlying the Community – namely (against) the agreements of sovereign nation states. It is an attempt to attribute to itself a legislative initiative, an attempt to confer control over national institutions
– criticized Brudziński.
He recalled that it is the European Council, not the European Parliament, that has the power to negotiate through directly elected representatives of national governments in individual countries.
We are constantly reminding our colleagues on the left that everyone in the EP is elected in nation states and that we should represent national interests, not some crazy ideological ideas aimed at reforming the family, the state, the nations and first and foremost the institutions, by granting itself powers that the EP does not have as a living
– emphasizes the former head of the Polish Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration.
The European Parliament supports changes to EU treaties
On Thursday, the European Parliament adopted a resolution calling on the European Council to initiate the process of reviewing EU treaties and extending the EP’s right to legislative initiative, as well as introducing majority voting in the EU Council. In addition, MEPs call for the EU’s competences to be extended to areas such as health, energy, defense and social and economic policy. They also want the European Parliament to be given the power to initiate, amend or repeal laws and to have full rights as a co-legislator of the EU budget.
The pretext for the resolution was the conclusion of the conference on the future of Europe on 9 May – a series of debates and discussions with civil society on the EU’s challenges and priorities.
Fortunately, this resolution is in no way binding on Poland or on any other nation-state. However, this is a very dangerous attempt to model Europe outside the treaty. Especially since all these pseudo-conferences and alleged consultations with citizens were microscopic and absolutely insignificant to the democratic order. This is yet another attempt to turn the European order upside down. I hope it doesn’t work again
– Joachim Brudziński summarized.
