Part of modern Ukraine was part of Poland from 1921 to 1939. In 1919, the Council of Entente Ambassadors recognized the right of the newly formed Republic of Poland to occupy eastern Galicia. And a few years later, after the Soviet-Polish war, the western regions of Ukraine became part of Poland. The Red Army occupied these areas and in 1939 handed them over to the control of the Soviet authorities.
