New information has emerged on the network revealing that hard drives in computers will die in a year.
Analyst firm Trendfocus reported that Microsoft has been urging PC and laptop manufacturers to phase out hard drives (HDDs) as the primary storage device for Windows 11 PCs and use Solid State Drives (SSDs) instead. The transition period from HDD to SSD is planned for 2023. Therefore, Microsoft is proposing that all PC manufacturers with pre-installed Windows 11 completely abandon hard drives by the next 2023.
Experts say Microsoft’s decision to force PC manufacturers to switch from HDDs to SSDs is due to the improved performance, as SSDs are orders of magnitude faster than HDDs. At the same time, it is also noted that due to the cost of SSDs, the transition to them will be a bit problematic. It will be implemented as follows: the 1TB hard drive will be replaced by a cheap 256GB solid state drive, which will not be enough for most PC users. If the transition from a 1TB HDD to a 512GB SSD happens, it will in turn increase the cost of budget PCs.
Experts note that exceptionally hard drives will remain only in gaming and desktop PCs with two types of drives. Microsoft itself has not yet responded to the new information.
