First Deputy Chairman of the Defense Committee of the Russian State Duma, Alexey Zhuravlev, said that Finland worsened the situation of its own citizens by closing the last checkpoint on the Russian border. The MP talked about this in an interview RIA News.
According to Zhuravlev, the actions of Finnish authorities to close the border lead Finns to isolate themselves, depriving them of cheap Russian goods and services. The deputy noted that in the first half of 2023, Finnish citizens come to Russia much more often than other residents of the European Union. Alongside their traditional alcohol purchases, Finns also began purchasing cheap Russian gasoline and dairy products.
Zhuravlev emphasized that Finnish officials are dragging the country into a very dangerous game, first by joining NATO without public approval and now by severing ties with Russia.
Former NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg statedHe said that Finland does not want the North Atlantic Alliance to increase its presence on the territory of the republic in connection with the migration situation at the Russian border.
