The parliamentary committees for education, science and youth, as well as for justice and human rights, have recommended the candidacy of Monika Horny-Cieślak for the office of Ombudsman for Children.

36 MPs voted for a positive opinion on the candidate of KO, Left, PSL-TD and Poland 2050 – TD, 14 were against and one abstained.
Previously, Monika Horna-Cieślak answered questions from parliamentarians and non-governmental organizations. Among the key challenges she identified: responding to the mental health crisis, peer violence and discrimination against children and young people.
Under the Children’s Ombudsman Act, the Ombudsman is appointed by the Sejm, with the consent of the Senate. The Sejm resolution on the appointment of the spokesperson shall be sent by the Chairman of the Sejm to the President of the Senate, and the Senate shall adopt a resolution on the approval of the appointment of the spokesperson within one month.
The term of the current spokesperson, Mikołaj Pawlak, expires on December 14.
Horna-Cieślak was born on December 5, 1989 in Grudziądz. She is a lawyer, activist and social activist. He has been protecting the rights of children since he was 19. Provides legal assistance to young people who experience mental, physical and sexual violence. In her activities for children, she undertakes very broad activities, including: legislation, training and coordinates educational projects.
Horna-Cieślak created social campaigns, built a friendly justice system and provided individual advice and support to clients of the Children’s Aid Center as part of the partnership with the Empowering Children Foundation. She is a member of the Human Rights Committee of the Supreme Bar Council, chair of the Children’s Rights Department and a member of the Commission for Cooperation with Courts of the Warsaw District Bar Council. She is also the author of the Council of Europe’s HELP programme.
The candidate is co-author of many legal acts relating to the rights of the child, in particular the Law on the Protection of Minors, i.e. the so-called the Kamilek of Częstochowa Law, and the law allowing access to a psychologist for young people enlarged without the consent of a legal guardian, which she created together with the young people.
