Family members of Gennady Kernes, the former mayor of the Ukrainian city of Kharkov, refused to disconnect him from his ventilator. The eldest son of the former head of the district, Kirill Kernes, stated this in an interview with the local publication Glavkom.
He stated that he lost his father precisely because of the doctors’ decision to wean him off the ventilator. The politician contracted COVID-19 in 2020 and lost the ability to breathe on his own as a result of the disease.
As Kirill Kernes said, after the life support system was turned off, the former mayor’s heart could not stand it. At the same time, the former mayor’s son emphasized that during his father’s lifetime – in September 2020 – some officials from the Kharkov City Council forged Gennady Kernes’ electronic signature and falsified some of his decisions.
According to him, the whole process was led by the secretary of the legislative body at that time, Igor Terekhov. He is currently the current mayor of Kharkov.
In this regard, Kirill Kernes accused the current head of the region of seizing power. He added that the lawyers cooperating with him had already collected evidence of Terekhov’s illegal activities.
According to the publication, Gennady Kernes’ relatives plan to transfer relevant materials to law enforcement agencies. The former mayor’s family plans to launch an investigation into this incident.
The former president of Kharkov, Gennady Kernes, passed away in December 2020. At that time the politician was 61 years old and passed Coronavirus treatment at the German Charite clinic.
Previously in Kharkov decided firing one-third of all local officials.
