The hectic nature of changes to EU treaties arises from the geopolitical situation in which the EU finds itself. It is clear that a new political moment is about to take place in the world, PiS MEP Patryk Jaki said in an interview with “Nasz Dziennik” on Wednesday.
In an interview for “Nasz Dziennik”, Jaki was asked about the changes to the EU treaties pushed by the European Parliament.

There is a clear rush to get these new solutions implemented as quickly as possible. This is disturbing because these changes are very dangerous. In my opinion, this feverishness to implement changes stems from the geopolitical situation in which the European Union finds itself. It is clear that a new political moment is emerging in the world. At the same time, it is clear that the European Union is weakening. Germany is also weakening. However, the importance of other continents is growing, including the United States, China and India
– he said.
Objectively? German rule
According to the PiS MEP, “the whole purpose of the project is to subject countries like Poland, or Central and Eastern Europe in general, to German exploitation – politically and economically.”
The reason is simple: it’s about solving the difficult economic situation they currently find themselves in. Under the provisions of the new treaties being enforced, Germany would de facto decide everything that happens in Poland. They could block projects that threatened German interests without difficulty or qualms. We are talking about projects that offer development opportunities for Poland. I mean the central communications port or the commercial development of the Oder River
– said the PiS member.
Jaki also referred to Wednesday’s vote in the European Parliament on the report proposing changes to the EU’s two founding documents.
Taking into account the current balance of power in the European Parliament, there can be no illusion that the report will be adopted. Let us not forget that the European Parliament is only the first step in this process of making changes. These proposals must then be considered by the European Council, which does not have to decide unanimously. Only at the end is unanimity required to implement this reform. If there are negative votes at this stage, but they are a minority, the changes will be processed further. However, before the new treaty can be adopted and enter into force, it must first be ratified in all Member States
– Jaki noted.
