The migration crisis and refugees wanting to go to Europe, security in the context of the war in Ukraine and cooperation between Poland and Finland in NATO – were among the topics of Monday’s meeting between Senate President Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska, and the President of Finland, Sauli Niinistö.
The conversation took place in the context of the official visit of the President of Finland to Poland. On Monday Niinistö also met with President Andrzej Duda and Chairman of the Sejm Szymon Hołownia.
According to the Senate Information Center, the meeting of Kidawa-Błońska and Niinistö was also attended by the head of the Senate Chancellery, Adam Niemczewski, and the Finnish Ambassador to Poland, Päivi Maarit Laine.
According to CIS, the politicians talked about the migration crisis and refugees wanting to go to Europe, security in the context of the war in Ukraine and cooperation of both countries in NATO.
The President of Finland spoke about the problems with illegal immigrants appearing at the border with Russia. He compared it to the situation at the border between Poland and Belarus. +We would appreciate it if you share your experiences and help us get a better handle on the situation+
– noted the President.
He ruled that it is the EU’s duty to protect and care for its borders
— CIS said in a statement after the meeting.
““We have a hybrid war.”
According to CIS, the Senate Marshal “recalled that the borders of Poland are also the eastern borders of the European Union” and emphasized the importance of the issue of protecting these borders. She also pointed out that all European countries need to exchange experiences in this area and stressed that without EU support it would be very difficult.
There is war in Ukraine and the situation in Belarus is difficult. We have a hybrid war and migrants are being deliberately sent to our borders. No one can defend themselves against these threats on their own
– said Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska, quoted in the CIS message.
The Marshal also spoke about the situation in the Baltic Sea, where it is necessary to defend infrastructure against attacks on pipelines and telecommunications assets. According to Kidawa-Błońska, “containing this danger is important for the entire European community.”
During the conversation with Niinistö, the Senate Marshal also praised the education system in Finland and assured that Poland would like to benefit from the Finnish experience in this field. She also spoke about expanding cooperation in the field of culture and increasing cooperation in this area.
According to CIS, Saulim Niinistö thanked Poland for its support for Finland’s accession to NATO and expressed hope that the new government would also join security cooperation.
Will the Senate President be reprimanded by MEP Janina Ochojska for her words about ‘hybrid war’ and border protection? Let us not forget that Ochojska supports the dismantling of the wall that the United Right government built on the border with Belarus.
