Bilateral relations, parliamentary cooperation, security of NATO’s eastern flank, but also in the Baltic Sea region, including in the context of the problem of illegal migration – were among the topics of discussion between the Chairman of the Sejm, Szymon Hołownia, and the President. of Finland, Sauli Niinistö.
The meeting took place on Monday and was also attended by MP Zofia Czernow, who chaired the Polish-Finnish Parliamentary Group three times – in the 7th, 8th and 9th terms of the Sejm.
The President of Finland is in Poland on an official visit; On Monday he also met with President Andrzej Duda and Senate President Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska.
As reported by the Sejm Information Center, the main topics of the meeting between the Chairman of the Sejm and the President of Finland were bilateral relations, parliamentary cooperation, the security of NATO’s eastern flank, as well as in the Baltic Sea region, also in the context of the problem of illegal migration.
The issue of hybrid threats, disinformation and possible ways to combat them was also discussed

Relations between our countries are excellent. In normal times we would talk about the economy, trade and other positive dimensions of cooperation. Unfortunately, we are currently in difficult times related, among other things: to the migratory pressure on the borders of our countries
– noted the President of Finland.

Poland’s support for Finland
As CIS highlights, President Niinistö also expressed gratitude for the support Poland provided to Finland on its way to NATO membership, and Marshal Hołownia emphasized that for Poland, Finland’s accession to the North Atlantic Alliance was crucial for maintaining security in the region.
In the world created by Putin, it is important to strongly emphasize the importance of NATO to our security. The economy is important, but security in our region is crucial and will remain so in the coming decades. Together we are stronger. In Poland we were shocked that in the 21st century anyone could use people as a weapon against their neighbors
– said the Marshal of the Sejm.
