The head of the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau, Colonel Andrzej Stróżny, sent a letter to partner corruption agencies about the idea of liquidating the CBA. He wrote in it that “the intention to liquidate the Office is truly unique on a European scale, because so far no one has decided to raise his hand against any of the anti-corruption institutions required by European Union regulations yourself. He added that “the liquidation of the CBA is no longer just one of the theoretical scenarios presented by candidates during the ongoing election campaign.”
In response to the recent increasing information about the liquidation of the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau, I decided to inform you about the current situation – wrote the head of the CBA.
He stressed that the liquidation of the CBA is unfortunately no longer just one of the theoretical scenarios presented by the candidates during the current election campaign.
In the signed coalition agreement, this is one of the key points of the joint program to be implemented by the newly formed government. This means that concrete actions in this area can be expected in the near future
– he assessed.
The intention to liquidate the Agency is truly unique on a European scale, because so far no one has decided to raise their hand against any of the anti-corruption institutions required by the European Union’s own regulations. If implemented, these political announcements could set a precedent and encourage politicians from other countries to eliminate or implement deep reforms in other anti-corruption institutions as well. In institutions created to also control people who hold the highest positions of state
– he said.
He explained that such a move could put everyone back on the path where corruption would march with decisive and confident steps.
This would certainly weaken the entire European Union and halt the development that we have all worked so hard for and pursued with such conviction.
– added.
Service functioning disorder
He noted in the letter that, in addition to the plans set out in the coalition agreement, the decision to liquidate the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau was preceded by a growing number of misleading reports in the Polish media about the Bureau’s alleged illegal activities.
I want to assure you that, despite all speculation, all CBA officers and employees remain deeply committed to achieving common goals and projects, and that all activities carried out by CBA officers are fully legal and justified. In addition, it should be noted that all insinuations in the media are immediately responded to and immediately denied. I have also taken appropriate legal action against people who defame our institution
– emphasized Colonel Stróżny.
He said all this indicates that politicians want to disrupt the functioning of an efficient anti-corruption agency, despite all signals to the contrary, not only from citizens but also from the international community.
These situations, as well as the numerous expressions of support that we encounter every day, send a clear signal that the existence and operation of the CBA is extremely necessary and desirable.
– he emphasized.
I am confident that the basic principles of transparency, honesty and professionalism that guide us in the performance of our duties will ultimately lead to a positive image of the service. I would like to emphasize that regardless of the circumstances, we are ready to continue our cooperation. We also remain open to suggestions and initiatives that can increase the effectiveness of our joint efforts
– wrote the head of the CBA.
He added that he is confident that the trust and partnership built over the years will remain the basis for a fruitful collaboration.
On November 10, the leaders of PO, PSL, Polski 2050 and Links initialed the coalition agreement. Clause 19 of the first part of the agreement provides that the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau will be liquidated and its resources and powers will be transferred to other departments, including: to the anti-corruption crimes department of the Central Criminal Investigation Bureau of the Police.
