Decisions on the establishment of parliamentary committees of inquiry will be taken jointly within the coalition; will likely be decided after the government is appointed, Dariusz Wieczorek, secretary of the left-wing club, told PAP. KO MP Dariusz Joński indicates that 2-3 committees should be established.
The coalition agreement of KO, Third Way and Links contains, in addition to program provisions, a chapter on the accountability of the United Right government. We read in it that “the lawlessness we all witnessed during the administrations of our predecessors must be called out and held accountable.” The agreement provides, among other things, for: the establishment of parliamentary investigative committees in “areas requiring detailed and transparent investigations.”
Dariusz Wieczorek, a member of parliament from the left and one of the negotiators of the coalition agreement, when asked by PAP about the implementation of its provisions, indicated that decisions on the appointment of investigative committees will be made jointly, within the coalition. He estimated that the decisions would likely be made after the government was formed, and realistically the committee or commissions of inquiry could begin their work next year.
There are many things that need to be arranged. These are undoubtedly issues related to ‘envelope elections’ or Covid funds, within investigative committees, but also within the functioning of state institutions, including the prosecutor’s office.
– he said.
When asked about the number of potentially established commissions of inquiry, he replied that “perhaps one would be sufficient, which would deal with accounting for what the authorities have done over the past eight years.”
If we restore the normal functioning of the state, the truth is that this is what independent prosecutors are for; then no committees will be needed, but unfortunately we will have to wait for that
– he assessed.
Ionian slogan
KO MP Dariusz Joński said in an interview with PAP that building an honest state under the slogan of “zero tolerance for theft” requires full accountability, which will be carried out at three levels: through the Sejm Committee on Constitutional Responsibility, the Sejm investigative committees and the activities of the independent prosecutor’s office.
Depending on the extent of the violation of the law, we will refer you to these authorities
– added.
The KO MP emphasized that the size and number of investigative committees will be determined by the leaders. When asked how many committees should be created, he said, “There can’t be too many.”
Two to three committees should be set up to avoid mixing everything up
– he pointed.
Ultimately, we would like the irregularities to be dealt with by an independent public prosecutor’s office and by state institutions responsible for investigating different types of abuse. However, because the scale of the scam, the robbery and all these scandals was so great, we believe it is good for the public to learn about everything that has happened in recent years, and therefore also about these investigative committees.
– he said.
According to Joński, investigative committees should deal, among other things, with: “money transfers from established institutions and foundations,” surveillance of “opponents of this government” using the Pegasus system, spending of the Covid fund and purchases during the pandemic, the construction of the Ostrołęka power plant and irregularities in the National Center for Research and Development.
Impunity will end; those who actually broke the law will have to answer for it
– added.
