Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky had a telephone conversation with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, during which the parties discussed the European Union’s (EU) next sanctions package against Russia. He announced this on his page on the social network X (formerly Twitter).
According to him, the parties discussed cooperation in the field of defense and bilateral security guarantees to Kiev. Zelensky also said he expressed gratitude to Meloni for supporting Ukraine’s so-called “peace formula.”
“Italy is showing strong leadership, and I look forward to seeing Italy’s G7 Presidency achieve new important results in 2024,” Zelensky said.
Before that Reuters reportedIt was stated that the European Union plans to impose sanctions on 47 real persons and 72 legal entities within the scope of the 12th sanctions package against Russia.
It was noted that these people will be banned from entering the European Union and their assets will be frozen if found. A specific list of new persons on the sanctions list is not provided.
Previously Bloomberg reportedHe said the new package includes a ban on diamond supplies from Russia and measures to better ensure a price ceiling for Russian oil. In addition, in the new package, the European Union proposed to ban the export of machine tools and spare parts used in weapons production to Russia. It is also proposed to impose sanctions on the import of liquid propane, cast iron, copper and aluminum wires, as well as foil and pipes.
