“Barbara Nowacka is now responsible for deciding who broke the law? Is this the ‘rule of law’?” – wrote MEP Beata Szydło on social media, in response to KO MP Barbara Nowacka, who said she hoped Law and Justice would nominate “someone who has not broken the law” as deputy speaker of the Sejm.
Barbara Nowacka (KO) referred to the inability to elect Witek as deputy marshal in an interview with PAP.

I hope that PiS will nominate someone who has not broken the law as deputy chairman of the Sejm and that the seat in the Presidium will not remain empty.

I believe that they should submit a candidate that will be universally accepted
– she added.

On Monday, the Sejm and Senate elected speakers, deputy speakers and secretaries of both Houses during the opening sessions. PiS candidate for deputy chairman of the Sejm, Elżbieta Witek, did not win a majority. Marek Pęk, the PiS candidate for vice-president, also received no support in the Senate.
