“We will continue to nominate the same candidates as deputy chairmen of the Sejm and the Senate, hoping that there will be some form of reflection from the parties that currently have the majority in terms of the leadership of the Sejm,” government spokesman Piotr Müller told Polsat News. .
During the opening sessions, the Sejm and the Senate elected speakers, deputy speakers and secretaries of both Houses. PiS candidate for deputy chairman of the Sejm, Elżbieta Witek, did not win a majority. Marek Pęk, the PiS candidate for vice-president, did not receive support in the Senate.
When Polsat News was asked about this, Müller said that this was a surprising situation because – as he said – “in the previous term of the Sejm, half of the deputy chairmen of the Sejm were representatives of the opposition.”
Today we have a situation where there is only one representative of the opposition in the Sejm, and this is a representative of the smallest political party. And in the Senate, the opposition is denied the right to have a deputy chairman
– said the government spokesperson.
Slogans about democracy
According to him, “political groups that marched under the slogans of democracy, under the slogans of political pluralism, today show what their real intentions are.”
However, I think voters will judge it calmly and consider whether they actually expected this kind of opening or whether such actions are negative. In our opinion, this attitude presented yesterday is clearly not a new opening, but on the contrary an attempt at further polarization.
– said Müller.
We take it slowly. We will continue to propose the same candidates (for deputy chairmen of the Sejm and the Senate – PAP), hoping that some form of reflection will come from the parties that currently have the majority in terms of the leadership of the Sejm.
– said the government spokesperson.
Another candidate
Earlier, Barbara Nowacka (KO) commented on Witek’s failure to elect him deputy marshal.
I hope that PiS will run for office again and that this place will not remain empty. I believe that they should sit on the Presidium of the Sejm, but I think they should submit a candidacy that will be universally accepted.
– she said.
They probably won’t do that in the near future, because they still need an atmosphere in which they can show how injustice is being done to them, but I hope that they will look at democracy as they should, think about how Mrs Witek has acted and introduce someone who does not break any laws
– she said.
She also recalled that PiS voted against all candidates proposed by the parliamentary majority.
Do they expect us to vote for them and them against us? It won’t be like that
– she said.
