The Fair Financing Platform went to Parliament yesterday, “at an appropriate time”, in the words of its members, to defend the Valencia agenda. The meeting of social representatives was held with the parties in the Valencian Parliament, but the focus was on the Congress. The platform tasked future Executives with the implications that PSOE’s agreements with the ERC and Junts could have, particularly on debt and the method of negotiating for a new distribution system.
The PP was the only one to censor these agreements and warn of the damage done to the Valencian Community. The rest showed varying degrees of support or took the opportunity to add extra demands that supplemented those agreed with the ERC and Junts for Catalonia, in the case of Valencia.
It was here that Salvador Navarro, president of the Valencian employers’ association, demanded that 70% of the debts be forgiven; UGT PV general secretary Ismael Sáez called for “multilateral” negotiations to reach an agreement on financing, and CC OO PV leader Ana García reminded that these two demands added “not only in volume, but also in investments.” by executive level. “We want a minimum amnesty of 70%,” said the president of the Valencian Business Confederation regarding the ERC and PSOE agreement to forgive up to 20% of FLA during the economic crisis. This 70% is what Sindicatura de Comptes says is due to insufficient funding; This is almost €40,000 million out of a total of €57,000.
Debt is the platform’s new focus of action, as seen in the last manifesto change. Regarding this, the CC OO PV leader stated that agreements in the State could be “favorable” to the interests of the Valencian Community. “This is one of the examples,” García said, referring to the agreement between socialists and republicans, pointing out that this legislature “should be the moment” to unblock the platform’s demands.
Thus, the platform aims to renew the parties’ commitment to their manifestos before the new legislature. PP, PSPV and Compromís continue and Vox still does not participate. But unity of action broke down in interpreting how the agreements would affect Congress.
For the socialists and Valencians this represents progress and a “window of opportunity”, while for the PP it is a “difficulty” and means an “aggravation” of the situation experienced by the Valencian Community and its finances. The next action is planned for an event this Friday, where Valencian MPs and senators will sign the platform’s manifesto of demands, alongside the network of organizations supporting the platform and the Federation of Municipalities and Provinces. It is stated that the law is in doubt due to the possibility that the general assembly meeting regarding amnesty in the Cortes will be held on Friday.
