We will not change Marek Pęk’s candidacy for the position of Senate Vice President; we will continue to nominate him; If he is not elected, I will recommend that PiS have no representative in the Presidium, stressed Stanisław Karczewski, head of the PiS club’s Senate branch. He added that the PiS Senate Club would probably not agree to chair any of the committees because PiS is proposing only two presidencies during the talks.
PiS will not change its candidate for deputy chairman of the Senate
On Monday, the head of the Senate branch of the PiS club, speaking to journalists, commented on the senators’ rejection of PiS candidate Marek Pęk for the position of Senate deputy chairman. Previously, PiS candidate Elżbieta Witek for the position of deputy chairman of the Sejm did not win a majority in the Sejm.
Karczewski noted that after the vote in Elżbieta Witek’s case, a similar outcome could be expected in Marek Pęk’s case.
This is a violation of basic principles, good customs and democracy. The club, a large club with 34 members, or more than 30 percent of the Senate, has no representative in the presidency.
– he said.
He emphasized that PiS will certainly not change its candidate.
If there is a vacancy and it is possible to run for Deputy Marshal, we will continue to nominate Marshal Pęka
– he announced.
If he is not elected – this is my belief, of course we will make a political decision – I will recommend that there is no representative of us in this Senate dominated by, as it turns out, undemocratic political formations.
– emphasized Karczewski.
He added that as head of the club he had started discussions about the distribution of committee chair positions.
When I was Marshal in 2015, there were 26 PO Senators, they had five committees and they want to assign two to us. Most likely we won’t agree with any of these
– he said.

Kwiatkowski: I hope the PiS club will nominate a candidate
Krzysztof Kwiatkowski, who won the mandate of senator on behalf of the Senate Pact, was asked by journalists about the reasons for rejecting the PiS candidate for deputy chairman of the Senate.
This should be asked of each of the senators
– said the senator. However, he added that the outcome of the vote was likely influenced by the fact that Pęk was punished by the Rules Committee in the previous term “for the way he treated other senators”.
In September, the Senate committee punished Marek Pęk for a July social media post that said: “The Senate deliberations are slowly coming to an end. We have votes ahead – under the cover of darkness, the pro-Russian majority is likely to reject the law requiring the Commission to investigate Russian influence in Poland…”
Kwiatkowski noted that because Pęk failed to secure a majority, the position of Senate Vice President was vacant.
There is a vacancy and the PiS club hopes that it will nominate a candidate
– he said.
However, the head of the Senate section of the PiS club, Stanisław Karczewski, stated that PiS will not change the candidate.
On Monday evening, the Senate elected deputy chairmen of the House of Representatives. They were: Magdalena Biejat (left), Michał Kamiński (UED) and Rafał Grupiński (KO). Only Marek Pęk did not receive the support of the House.
