US President Joe Biden plans to have a “tough call” with Chinese President Xi Jinping on key issues in US-China relations, including Beijing’s ties with Tehran and Moscow and its role in the conflict in Ukraine. This was reported by Policy referring to American officials.
According to the publication’s interlocutor, the American leader hopes to persuade China’s president to influence Iran so that Iran is not prepared for an escalation or spread of violence in the Middle East against the backdrop of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Biden also promised that Washington would respond immediately in case of any provocation from Tehran.
The US President also plans to discuss with the Chinese President the role of the Chinese side in the opioid overdose epidemic in the US. American officials have previously accused Beijing of being unwilling to tighten control over the production of these drugs, which have fallen into the hands of cartels first in Mexico and then in the United States.
