“Another level of political murderism has been crossed. It is sad – although on the other hand we have already gotten used to it – that the Polish Members of the European Parliament voted in favor of this motion,” Prof. PiS Member of the European Parliament told the portal wPolityce.pl. Ryszard Legutko, referring to the lifting of the immunity of four Members of the European Parliament from this group: Beata Kemp, Patryk Jaki, Beata Mazurek and Tomasz Poręba.
Waiver of immunities
Today the European Parliament decided to lift the immunity of four Members of the European Parliament for Law and Justice: Beata Kemp, Beata Mazurek, Patryk Jaki and Tomasz Poręba. The basis were the accusations of Rafał Gawł, who was convicted in Poland of financial embezzlement. Gaweł accused the four politicians of “committing racist crimes in Poland” – it was about… “retweeting” or “liking” the Law and Justice election spot on social media about the threats related to the influx of illegal immigrants to Europe. The spot came from the campaign before the 2018 local elections.
We have asked the Law and Justice MEP, Prof. Dr., to comment on this matter. Ryszard Legutka. Will each of us now have to think twice before ‘liking’ something on a social networking site?
The European institutions have been moving in this increasingly murderous direction for some time now. Any deviation from the ideological monopoly that dominates the EU is an opportunity for them to try to fight anyone they see as their opponents.
– says our interlocutor.
For example, we had to deal with censorship at exhibitions. An example from a few years ago is the Smolensk exhibition, where the text was covered with black tape. What happened today is nothing new. This is a continuation of what has been happening for a long time
– he adds.
Our colleagues are exposed to unpleasant situations, but it is also worth noting that, on the one hand, the complainant is extremely unreliable as a person evading justice, and on the other hand, what these Members of the European Parliament have done. They “found” the place
– points out Prof. Legutko.
So far, the act of “liking” something on social media seems to be not just a widespread but obvious practice. You like something, you don’t like something. And we lived under the belief that ‘liking’ or ‘disliking’ something was absolutely not subject to any sanction. At most, someone may not like me for what I like, but until now this category belonged to the most sacred sphere of freedom.
– underlined.
And now it turns out not. The European Parliament has committed an infringement and suddenly we find out that ‘liking’ something can also be subject to legal sanctions and the European Parliament is in favor of that
– indicates.
This obviously results from the extremely partisan nature of the European institutions. Because these are not even European institutions in the strict sense of the word, but party institutions, which are concretely cemented by this ideological and political monopoly. The governments of the left eradicate everything that is outside them, and this is also what happened to our colleagues.
– says the PiS member.

“‘A new level of political murder’
The whole matter is deadly serious and we must defend our colleagues. Here another level of political murderism has been crossed. It is sad – although we on the other hand have already become used to it – that the Polish Members of the European Parliament voted in favor of this motion
– points out Prof. Ryszard Legutko.
It is worth adding that the rapporteur ended his document with the opposite conclusion: that immunity should not be lifted. However, this was voted down and the party majority rejected the rapporteur’s proposal, even though it is generally accepted
– reminds.
And after the vote in the plenary chamber, I saw the satisfied, smiling faces of the majority who raised their hands to say “yes”, even though it was absolutely reprehensible.
– emphasizes the politician.
“This is a harbinger of what may yet come.”
The whole case seems quite absurd from the start, and furthermore, the complainant here acts as an injured party. How could he be harmed by the content of the spot or by the sympathy of the Members of the European Parliament?
Formally speaking, this issue should not exist and if the opposite were to happen, it would not be on Parliament’s agenda at all. However, this is exactly what this progressive murderousness and partisanship is all about: there are simply no rules here. We do not adhere to the rules that should apply regardless of who belongs to which party. No, there is one rule here: if we can harm political opponents of the right, we can break all the rules. And this is what the European Parliament accepts and has been acting on for a long time. Furthermore, it will continue to function this way if no change is made
– points out Prof. Legutko.
And we can even imagine – it will be a nightmare – what the European institutions would look like if these proposed treaty changes came into force. Because what happens now is a prelude to what will happen later
– sums up.
