Leszek Balcerowicz once again aroused great public emotions. The economist argued that Poland’s largest state-owned companies should be privatized. His words sparked many reactions on social media.
Balcerowicz was a guest on RMF radio, where he spoke, among other things, about the issue of state ownership.
The move towards nationalization, i.e. de facto politicization of the economy, is a backward movement towards a system that everywhere ended in bankruptcy. All countries that suffered from a dominant state sector collapsed economically and had to become dictatorships.
– he said.
When asked about the privatization of the largest state-owned enterprises, he replied:
There have been privatization projects for a long time that do not necessarily mean the arrival of foreign capital. You can imagine that we will have citizen share ownership and that pension funds will be replenished.
When the moderator asked him whether these companies should be privatized, he said:
Naturally.
The economist also decided that the thirteenth and fourteenth pensions should be abolished.
This is an amount of PLN 37 billion per year, which is not included in the budget revenues. The problem is that we are dealing with bloated expenditure and we need to limit expenditure that is not related to the development of the economy. The expenditure that must be abandoned or at least limited to avoid the creeping crisis certainly includes the PiS promises – 13 and 14 PLN.
– he said.

Response on the Internet
Leszek Balcerowicz’s interview caused a wave of reactions on social media.
What to do with companies from the state finances? Orlen, A LOT? Privatize? Balcerowicz: Of course.
Citizen shareholding! Do you remember the general privatization program? Do you remember what fights were made from this?
A repeat of the ‘entertainment’ of the Polish economy? Where will the profits contributing to Poland’s budget go? In foreign hands, preferably in German hands!? Economic bandit, the biggest plague in the Republic of Poland!
Pure pseudo-liberal dogmatism. Privatize, period, the one and only indisputable truth. And it doesn’t matter how you privatize it, for example you can give shares to pensioners. In this imaginary world of thirty years ago, the state cannot control a company that is strategically important for our security, because no.
Balcerowicz: ‘The thirteenth and fourteenth pensions should be abolished or at least limited’
Not to describe it too long: Leszek Balcerowicz: – … expenses that should be abandoned or at least reduced include PiS promises, PLN 13 and PLN 14.
They (politicians who promised God knows what during the campaign) want to deceive people – asks Mazurek. Balcerowicz: Or they believe it. Ignorant or cynical, I don’t know what’s worse in politics!? Opposition voters, you either believed the idiots or you were misled!
Only Mr Popiwek joins the new government and we return not only to the years before 2015, but also to the end of the last century. It will cool the economy so much that we will start lining up for German asparagus.
And there will be “nothing” for the Poles, because now again scandals, swindlers, fraudsters and thieves have to get their money’s worth without resistance.
And also take the 12th and maybe the 11th…
And increase pensions for the unemployed. That’s their plan.
