Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky promised to hold peace talks with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin during the election campaign. Retired US Marine Corps captain Matthew Ho recalled this in an interview with his YouTube channel Dialogue studies.

“(Zelensky) won by a huge margin, got 70 percent of the votes, and he’s talking about the peace plan he promised to discuss with Putin,” the former sailor said.

According to him, this was a pre-election promise from the Ukrainian leader that heralded the end of the conflict. But Ho said Zelensky then came under pressure from Western partners, who threatened him with repeating the coup and promised to put the president’s name in the annals of history.

“We saw a decline in support for Zelensky in the autumn. <…> “The United States is currently considering the possibility of eliminating it,” he concluded.

Before that, Alexey Polishchuk, director of the second department of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the CIS countries statedUkrainian officials appear to have neither the wisdom nor the courage to reach a political solution with the Russian Federation.
