Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis said that he expects a positive assessment from the European Commission on whether Ukraine is ready to start negotiations for accession to the European Union (EU), but emphasized that further discussions between the heads of state of the association will be difficult. This was reported by LRT.
From his point of view, the visit of EC President Ursula von der Leyen to Kiev speaks of a decision in favor of Ukraine’s membership. Landsbergis emphasized that he probably wouldn’t accept the bad news.
However, the Lithuanian Foreign Minister reminded that further steps must be approved by the EU Leaders Council.
